What is Greek Mythology?- Greek Mythology is the body of myths and teachings that belong to the ancient Greeks concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world.
My job was to pick 5 topics, research the topic, then write a blog post for each topic. I decided to do my topic on Greek Gods and Mythology, and I did the following:
Zeus-was the god of the sky and ruler of the Olympian gods. Zeus overthrew his father Cronus, He then drew lots with his brothers Poseidon and Hades. Zeus is married to Hera but is famous for his many affairs.
Persephone- Is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter,She was the goddess of springtime and, after her abduction by Hades she became his wife and queen of the underworld for six months of each year.
Dionysus-He was the God of fertility and wine, later considered a patron of the arts. Dionysus can drive a man mad. No normal fetters can hold him or his followers. Dionysus is the son of Zeus and Semele. He is the only God to have a mortal parent.
Niobe-the daughter of Tantalus (king of sipylus) and wife of king Amphion of Thebes. She had 6 sons and 6 daughters and boasted of her progenitive superiority to the Titan Leto who had only 2 children, the twin deities Apollo and Artemis. As punishment for her pride, Apollo killed all Niobe's sons and Artemis killed all her daughters.
Cadmus- the legendary founder of the Thebes. He was not a Greek by birth, but a Phoenician who brought a 16-letter alphabet. Cadmu's father was Agenor of Sidon son of Poseidon and father of Europa.
My conclusion on Greek Mythology is that it attempts to explain the origins of the world and details the lives and adventures of a wide variety of gods, goddesses, heroes, heroines, and mythological creatures.
